FULHAM RUE CHARLTON DRAW

Fulham manager Kit Symons felt that his team should have been given all three points in the recent encounter against Charlton Athletic. The match finished as a 1-1 draw with all of the goals coming inside the 20 minutes of the first half. Ross McCormack opened the scoring after just eight minutes on the clock but Charlton were level not too long after that goal.

Gudmundsson scored after just eight minutes but Symons says that Charlton should have been penalised for offside. The player was not directly outside, but Frederic Bulot was impeding play from an offside position. Continue reading “FULHAM RUE CHARLTON DRAW”

Kolo Toure was brought into the starting line-up

Due to the suspension and unavailability of regular first-team defender Martin Skrtel, experienced campaigner Kolo Toure was brought into the starting line-up against Arsenal on Saturday.

Liverpool were going into the match with a real need of three points in order to keep their slim hope of top four qualifications alive. Another victory for Manchester United and a defeat for Liverpool will extend the gap further with only seven matches remaining. It proved to be the case after Arsenal ran riot at the Emirates stadium on Saturday. A 4-1 victory over the Reds has almost ended any hope of Champions League qualification for Liverpool.

After the match, Touré was not happy with the way the match went. Liverpool were second best in all areas of the pitch and they were particularly unhappy at the way Liverpool scored three of their goals in the last eight minutes of first-half. The only consolation for Liverpool came through a penalty scored by Jordan Henderson after Raheem Sterling was fouled in the box. It was always going to be difficult for Brendan Rodgers and his men, as they came into the match without two of their top players – Steven Gerrard and Skrtel – due to suspension. It is quite possible that Liverpool will now start focusing on the FA Cup. Continue reading “Kolo Toure was brought into the starting line-up”

For almost a decade, Ivory Coast have been favourites to win the trophy due to a star studded squad that included the likes of Didier Drogba and Yaya Touré. Kolo Toure was also an important part of the team and he is one of the few African players who has lifted league titles. The Liverpool defender used this experience to see off Equatorial Guinea in a penalty shootout in the final.

The 33-year-old had been stating before the Africa Cup of Nations began for the 2015 edition that he would retire after this tournament. It turned out to be the perfect send-off for the former Manchester City and Arsenal defender, as Ivory Coast finally lifted this trophy to end a two decade wait. Even though he may have found first-team opportunities limited at Liverpool this season, Ivory Coast used him in all of the six matches in this tournament. The experience brought on by the defender, who has played in three world cups, was very crucial indeed. Continue reading “Kolo Toure announces Retirement from Internation Football”
