Kolo Toure Seems To Have Recovered

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure was a major doubt for the World Cup 2014 after suffering a bout of malaria just before the start of the tournament. He was absent from most of the warmup friendly matches, but his presence was imperative for the national team since he remains as one of the quality defenders available for selection. Manager Sabri Lamouchi was hoping that Toure will recover from the malaria problem sooner rather than later. It seems to have been the case after the former Manchester City and Arsenal man has just returned to first team training.

He is expected to be fit for Ivory Coast’s opening match of the tournament against Japan. They come into the tournament on the back of an inconsistent form that has raised doubts about their aspirations of reaching the knockout stages. This is seen as the final hurrah for the Ivory Coast team with stars like Didier Drogba and Kolo Toure approaching the end of their careers. Toure has stated that the malaria issue certainly proved to be a major scare, but he is now fully behind the problem and has never felt better.

The 33-year-old previously suffered this disease back in 2008 when he was playing for Arsenal. He has since recovered sufficiently to play at the top level.

“I feel great. The malaria was just for two days. Obviously we have the medical department that knows malaria very well and they gave me tablets. I was in bed for two days. When they heard the news everyone was talking. I had a phone call from my club, from people around the world. I’m absolutely fine because my body is used to that kind of sickness, it’s not the first time and it won’t be the last,” said the 33-year-old defender, who moved to Liverpool last summer.

City Takes History From Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers was on the verge of making history with Liverpool a few months ago when the team almost managed on securing the Premier League title as they were at the top of the English league for a considerable period of time but after a series of disappointing results, they had to settle with a 2nd place spot as Manchester City leaped ahead of them and claimed the trophy.

A few days ago, the Northern Irish football coach penned a new 4 yearlong contract extension with Liverpool and Kolo Toure is certain that Brendan Rodgers will make the right choices in this summer transfer window as well as the next years in charge of the club in Anfield.

Kolo Toure said: ‘’the manager knows what it takes to go forward better than me, better than anybody. What I saw from this football club this season has been amazing. We have fantastic fans; fantastic players and we work really hard in training every day. This club is amazing and will only get better. This club is a winner and when I came here, I saw that. I’ve seen the dedication, the professionalism of everyone connected with the club and all the staff. It is very well run and next season we are going to be better again. Why not win the Premier League next season? If we do we will deserve it. The manager will want to build in the summer and it is all about getting the best team around you that you can. We don’t lack the motivation at all to win the league and the manager will try to get the best. He knows what he is looking for’’

Kolo Toure has some busy weeks ahead of him as the Premier League season just concluded but the 2014 World Cup is just around the corner and Kolo Toure is one of the high-profile players expected to lead the charge in the defence of Ivory Coast as they have to face off against Japan, Colombia and Greece.

Evra extension no bar to Shaw deal

Patrice Evra’s decision to extend his stay at Manchester United for at least another year came as a bit of a surprise but is unlikely to prevent new boss Louis van Gaal pushing ahead with a big summer move for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

Frenchman Evra was at the end of his contract and had been widely linked with a move to Italian side Inter Milan, where he would have teamed up with his outgoing team-mate Nemanja Vidic. But he’s decided to stay on at Old Trafford and, while he may eventually end up finding himself on the bench if, as expected, Shaw joins for around £30million, the news he is prolonging his spell in England will be welcomed by most United fans. Villa lead Lescott chase

Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott this summer. The versatile defender is available on a free transfer this summer after being told by Manchester City that he won’t be given a new deal when his current contract expires next month.

Following the news that current owner Randy Lerner has put the club up for sale, Villa manager Paul Lambert is heading into this summer’s transfer market without knowing how much movement he will be allowed to make. Despite admitting the uncertainty regarding the club made his job this summer tougher, Lambert insisted the size of the club still made Villa a tempting option for potential signings. HODGSON IS OPTIMISTIC

England manager Roy Hodgson says that he is upbeat about the chances of players like Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Phil Jagielka appearing at the World Cup 2014. It is still highly doubtful whether the England manager would be taking these players to Brazil 2014 since they have been on a poor form or injured for most of the season.

Jagielka has been one of the important players for the England national team since John Terry retired from international football. He had formed an excellent partnership with Gary Cahill at the back, but the Everton man is yet to return from a spell on the sidelines. Continue reading “HODGSON IS OPTIMISTIC”
