Celtic are looking at the possibility of signing Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon on a free transfer at the end of this season. Celtic are also looking at signing Fraser Forster, but have made Craig Gordon than their backup transfer target in case they fail to land the former.
Craig Gordon is out of contract at the end of the season, and is very unlikely that Sunderland will be looking at the possibility of offering a new deal for the former Scotland international. The £ 9 million signing has not played a great deal of football in the last two years, but Neil Lennon reckons that he will be able to get the best out of the goalkeeper.
Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill only recently revealed that he will be giving a chance to Craig Gordon to prove himself in the remaining few matches of the Premier league. Since Sunderland have nothing to play for in the remainder of the season, Martin O’Neill sees this is a great opportunity to assess the capacity of Craig Gordon. One of the major stumbling block in the move could be the wages of Craig Gordon. He currently runs around £ 40,000 per week, but Celtic will be unable to match that offer.
